At about 8:15, on a freshly watered bit of lawn with desert palms and, yes, purple mountains as a backdrop, Dean Seymour and Philip Colapinto became the first gay couple to marry in Riverside County. Friends, family, and a knot of eager photographers crowded around as Seymour and Colapinto exchanged rings and vows. Seymour's mother, Winona Guitreau, wiped away tears; so did the tanned and buff Colapinto. But his 89-year-old aunt, Millie Ambrosino, was nothing but smiles.
Inside the courthouse, perhaps 20 couples had already showed by 8 a.m., including Riverside County's first walk-ins, who arrived in a stretch limo. (Anne Stockwell, The Advocate)
